about
Ganja Genomics was founded in June 2022 to provide molecular diagnostic tools and services that address the unmet needs of breeders, growers and scientists in the cannabis industry. We recognized a gap in cannabis standardization and certification that DNA-based solutions can fill. Founder Dave brings decades of DNA research and life science corporate experience, setting him apart in the cannabis and molecular biology fields. His expertise and availability for research consultation can be a valuable asset to organizations seeking guidance in DNA analysis and molecular science.
Cannabis growers generally talk about genetics meaning their valued cannabis strains that they carefully breed, cultivate and propagate. At Ganja Genomics, we’re talking about molecular genetics applications (i.e., DNA testing) to provide actionable and valuable data to the plant owners. This includes information on the identity, parentage and DNA makeup of your plant. We’re also offering scientists prepared DNA samples from a vast array of strains to accelerate cannabis DNA research. People can use this knowledge to make better informed cannabis scientific decisions.
Dave Latorra, Ph.D., founder and owner of Ganja Genomics, brings decades of expertise in molecular diagnostics and cannabis science. He holds a B.S. in Biochemistry and an M.S. in Microbiology from Clemson University and a Ph.D. in Biology/Zoology from Colorado State University.
Dave has worked with leading companies in genetic tools and diagnostics, including Roche, Applied Biosystems (Thermo), Qiagen, and Bio-Rad, and has nearly 30 years of experience directing DNA testing laboratories. He began consulting in the cannabis field in 2012, specializing in PCR microbial testing and later serving as Lab Director for cannabis analytical chemistry labs in Colorado, California, Oregon and New Mexico. He is also co-founder of DNA is Love, LLC.
Dave’s combination of scientific expertise and industry experience allows him to provide strategic guidance in molecular diagnostics, lab operations and cannabis DNA research.
